Every year, LDF remembers the historic Selma to Montgomery march and continues the national conversation around voting rights. Each March, we join thousands of voting rights leaders, activists, and allies to pay homage to the 600 men, women, and children who were on the front lines in the fight for voting rights on Bloody Sunday, reflecting on their brave and impactful legacy and carrying forward their mission to protect and expand Black people’s voting rights.
This weekend — the 61st Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee — we are featuring pieces that honor Selma’s legacy and reflect on how the continued fight for voting rights reverberates across all facets of our democracy.
One More Note:
Please consider tuning into our Selma voting rights panel livestream at the YouTube link above on March 7, 2026, at 5 p.m. EST/4 p.m. CST.
The panel, “We Were Built for This: Refounding Our Democracy,” uses the legacy of Bloody Sunday and the unfinished work of building a multiracial democracy to engage, on sacred ground at Brown Chapel AME Church, in dialogue about the attacks on Black communities and what is required of us. As our nation marks 250 years, this conversation confronts the urgent need to reimagine and refound a democracy worthy of what our communities deserve. Panelists discuss how advocacy, scholarship, organizing, storytelling, and lived experience are shaping the next chapter. Together, they affirm that we were built for this moment — and for the work that lies ahead.
